Jean Forbes

Jean E. Forbes is a retired high school art teacher who has resided year-round in Southwest harbor with her husband Mike since 2012.

Jean works primarily in watercolor and occasionally in oil, gouache and acrylic.

Her roots in rural northwest New Jersey and childhood trips to Canada, Maine and the Adirondacks have greatly influenced her art.

Jean’s education consists of degrees from University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island School of Design as well as graduate studies at Syracuse University.

She taught high school art in RI and led watercolor workshops in Rhode Island and Maine.

Ms. Forbes has juried into numerous art shows, won awards in sculpture, pen & ink and watercolor and has illustrated several booklets.

Jean is currently studies painting with Philip Frey and Judy Taylor.

Since relocating to Southwest Harbor her work has hung at ArtWaves, Bar Harbor Savings and Loan, Bass Harbor Memorial Library, Jesup Library, Quietside Gallery, Shaw Gallery, Smart Art Gallery, Southwest Harbor Public Library and Swallowfield.
