Vicky Smith lives on Mount Desert Island.
She arrived on MDI 40 years ago, fell in love with the island and decided to make it home.
She became an oil painter after raising her children and is primarily self taught.
Oil paints are her choice because “they are lucious and maileable. A pleasure to work with. When painting our beautiful island en Plein air, the scenes change with the cloud cover or the sun moving across the sky. You might get a glimpse of an unexpected color. Absorbing that color into the painting can be delightful.”
She has been influenced by Linda Rowell-Kelly, Philip Frey, Judy Taylor and Mary Ternus along with others she spends time painting with in Plein air.
Her work has been in the MDI open Show, Artwaves Show, Jesup Library, Southwest Harbor Library Shows, The Nor’easter Restaurant, Smart Studio Shows and Bar Harbor Savings and Loan.
She enjoys discovering new vistas to put on canvas and is always looking. She paints because it feeds her soul and brings her joy.
